Eristoff Black Up: a new kind of augmented reality

Discover how Orbit – our real-time networking technology – made it possible to create a new kind of augmented reality experience. We call it a “cross-reality” experience, where the virtual and real world blend in a smooth and intuitive experience like never before! You can experience it online right now on the website of Eristoff Black.

The following video is a case study of the application we created with MNSTR, the digital agency behind the amazing Eristoff Black campaign:

New Minko ShaderLab preview

The ShaderLab is a web application providing a visual programming environment to create, test and share hardware accelerated rendering effects or “shaders”. It benefits from Minko’s optimized JIT compiler to create high speed and lightweight shaders.

If you have questions or suggestions, please post them on Aerys Answers or in the comments.

In this video:

  • live 3D preview (0:09)
  • sound spectrum analyzer for animations based on sound (0:20)
  • extraction of floating point values components (0:50)
  • user friendly value items such as color pickers (1:07)
  • customizable GPU states for blending, depth test, etc… (1:20)
  • powerful enough to create fully hardware accelerated particle engines without code (1:25)
  • custom maths functions with rich curve editors (1:37)
  • display compiled shader bytecode for educational purposes (1:52)
  • load and save files from the Aerys online cloud storage (1:55)
  • group operations to create high level functions (2:50)
  • bitmap textures (3:18)
  • change preview 3D model (3:35)
  • create texture animations (3:52)
  • support for multiple textures (4:05)
  • customizable shader name and description (4:15)
  • procedural hardware accelerated animations (4:40)
  • customizable interpolation smoothing (4:50)
  • hardware accelerated procedural textures (5:40)

Other features:

  • access to normalized mouse coordinates
  • parameter bindings with ActionScript code
  • export shaders and import them with a single line of code in any application
  • embed any shader on any website “à la Youtube” (http://bit.ly/x1BkNi)

BlackSun first technical preview: save democracy, kill Nazi aliens!

“2040, a NATO spy satellite discovers a long time forgotten Nazi base in the desertic lands of Artic. This secret base once was a laboratory of the “Black Sun”, the occult division of the 3rd Reich. It appears they have been running strange experiments on extraterrestrial material found in meteorites. A team of marines was sent there to investigate… You are the only survivor.”

That’s the pitch for our latest experiment called “BlackSun”. It’s meant to be an homage to Wolfenstein 3D, the very first 3D PC game. BlackSun is a very simple and yet effective 3D shooting game available right in your browser.

Of course, the game was built with Minko, our free and open source 3D engine for the Adobe Flash Platform. Thanks to Minko, we were able to create the scene with classic CAO tools such as Autodesk 3DS Max and Maya and use them in our application. We also used our upcoming exclusive 3D compression algorithms to reduce the total size of the game to less than 10MB.

Try BlackSun now!

This very first release is just a technical preview but it already features:

  • Real-time 3D rendering
  • Dynamic and static lighting
  • Projected shadows
  • HDR rendering
  • Hardware accelerated animations
  • Physics

For now, we’ve just published a first technical preview so you’ll have to wait a bit longer to start the nazi aliens slaughter… But stay tuned, democracy needs you!

Aerys Answers officially launched, now waiting for your questions

When we decided to release Minko as an open source project, our goal was to build a huge community around the project. And a community needs places to gather and exchange. This is why a month ago we opened a forum dedicated to Minko on Mediabox for the French community. We are especially commited to the French community as Aerys is a French company. Of course, it doesn’t mean we don’t care about the rest of the world. Quite the opposite actually. This is why we decided to create and host our own support forum.

It is called Aerys Answers and it is now officially available. You just have to create a free Aerys ID, log in and start asking questions and share what you know with the community. Please note that those IDs will soon be required to access early beta programs and a lot of cool and exclusive features.

We sure hope this is just the beginning of a big and successful community! If you need professional techincal support, please contact us!
